Laos - Luang Prabang
Wat Xieng ThongWat Xieng Thong Built in 1560 is the most beautiful temple of Luang Prabang, nestled at the junction of the Khan and the Mekong Rivers. The sim of the structure represents classic Luang Prabang temple architecture with roofs sweeping low to the ground. The rear wall of the sim features an impressive tree of life mosaic set in a red background and a richly decorated wooden column that supports a ceiling vested with Dharma wheels. In the compound are several small chapels housing bronze Buddha images which were displayed in Paris in 1911. Near the compound's east gate stands the royal funeral chapel. Inside is an impressive 12 meter high Royal funeral chariot and various funeral urns of each royal family member.
